UHP Medical Office Building Groundbreaking Held

5/20/2013

Charles Town, W.Va. – Officials from University Healthcare Physicians (UHP) and University Healthcare Jefferson Medical Center gathered today with representatives from the City of Charles Town and the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce for the official groundbreaking for a new medical office building in Jefferson County.

The 11,200 square foot, single story building located on Route 340 South in Windmill Crossing, will house two existing medical practices – WVU Urgent Care and University Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, both currently located near Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson. The hospital also plans to move its physical therapy services to the new building.

“Our current plan is to relocate WVU Urgent Care to the new building,” commented Konrad C. Nau, MD, president and chief executive officer of UHP. WVU Urgent Care opened in 2012 in the medical office building across the street from Jefferson Medical Center. “This move will improve visibility of the urgent care and offer better access for our patients,” he added.

The one-story medical building will also house University Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, the UHP practice of Nyagon Duany, MD. Duany is an orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine. She is a member of the medical staff at Jefferson Medical Center.

For patient convenience, Jefferson Medical Center will move its outpatient physical therapy department from Ranson to the new medical building. “Patients will be able to visit their physician and have access to rehab services all in one building,” stated Josh Miller, PhD, director of rehab services.

Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc, is the contractor for the $3.4 million project, which is expected to be completed by December 2013. This project is Shockey’s third partnership with University Healthcare. Previous work included multiple projects at both Jefferson Medical Center and Berkeley Medical Center.
