This Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) report provides an analysis of health trends in the communities served by Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center, the two hospitals which comprise University Healthcare (previously WVUH-East). This assessment was conducted to gain insight into the health care needs and priorities in the region, available assets to address identified needs, and to meet IRS regulatory requirements. The findings serve as the basis for strategic thinking and planning for each University Healthcare hospital. The CHNA is augmented by broad community input about unmet needs and priorities. By engaging the community in this assessment and development of strategies to improve community health, the credibility and sustainability of health improvement efforts and the image of University Healthcare and its vital role in the health of the community is enhanced.
